This LUK Clutch Kit will work with Mercury Cougars from 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002. Usually the clutch is a resilient system, after 75,000 miles or so the mechanisms can stop functioning and require replacement. A Clutch Kit is an important component within your transmission permitting the current gear to be released from the car's driveshaft to enable an additional larger or smaller gear to be used. In cars that use an automatic transmission, the Clutch Kit is incorporated into the transmission system, however stick shifts need the motorist to engage the clutch on their own, typically by using a pedal near your brake pedal. A functional Clutch Kit lets you change gears using the engine flywheel and friction discs; when the clutch pedal is engaged, the flywheel and clutch plate separate, uncoupling the vehicle's engine from the wheels and allowing it to spin freely. Clutch Kites permit the vehicle's transmission to select a new gear by disconnecting the transmission from the engine. Mercury Cougars from model years 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 are compatible with this Clutch Kit.
