This thermostat housing is a Dorman product for use on 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac vehicles. The thermostat housing protects the coolant thermostat in the engine. Usually in two parts, this housing consists of both the upper and lower halves. The thermostat inside the housing stops the flow of coolant into the radiator until the engine reaches the desired operating temperature. To keep the engine from overheating, the thermostat opens to let coolant pass into the radiator to remove excess heat.
